Title: Alice
Director: Sylvie Ballyot
Specs: France 2004 video 48min subtitled
In this poignant and lyrical, yet simply told, featurette, Alice is thrown into deep emotional torment when her only source of love, her sister, Manon gets married. When she vents her frustrated anger and betrayal at the reception, Alice is alienated by everyone but her grandmother – the only one who truly understands her.
She isolates herself from her family, but cannot escape the now surfaced and long-held taboo memories of bullied sexual abuse and dawning sensuality, and deep sibling love.
By returning, these memories threaten to engulf her and destroy the excitement and discovery of the first stages of intimacy with the confused, yet understanding and gentle Elsa.
