Crime, sex, guilt and God are the subject matter of this dynamic and morally complex film set amidst the chaotic rhythm and decaying beauty of Naples and, in particular, the poor, Mafia dominated suburb which is home to the teenager, Nunzio.
Father Lorenzo has rejuvenated the local parish with his fiery sermons denouncing the Mafia. And so he must be silenced but, as assassination would make him a hero, they must expose him for his sexual relationship with Nunzio.
Nunzio, nurtured for the first time in his life, will not cooperate with the mob or the police to expose the priest, but is under threat himself. Atmospheric cinematography and soaring music made this a Festival favourite in 1998 and it has not lost its appeal since.
