Sonique to rock Std Bank Arena

Venue and ticketing information announced for the party of the year

28 August, 2010

Sonique
JOHANNESBURG — British pop-star and DJ Sonique, powered by Cintron Liquid Energy, will perform at the world-class Standard Bank Arena on Saturday October 2nd for the Joburg Pride Official After-party, taking place on the night of the 21st Annual Joburg Pride Parade and Day.

The after-party will see the chart-topping Sonique not only performing some of her hit tracks, but also delivering a two-hour DJ set that is guaranteed to set the dance-floor alight. Sonique – who won the 2001 BRIT Award for British female solo artist – is brought to Joburg Pride by new energy drink Cintron Liquid Energy.

Situated in the Ellis Park precinct, which was recently upgraded for the 2010 World Cup, the Standard Bank Arena is one of the most versatile venues in the city and has hosted a vast range of events – from ice-skating shows, mega-raves, and show-jumping competitions to rock concerts.

"We're thrilled with the Standard Bank Arena – it's a fantastic venue," says Joburg Pride Co-chair Tanya Harford. "In addition to having world-class facilities, the arena can also accommodate a significant crowd without fear of dangerous and uncomfortable overcrowding and overheating – as is often the case with these kinds of larger parties," she notes.

The Standard Bank Arena is easy-to-reach off the M1 highway, offers ample and well-maintained bathroom facilities, with on-duty cleaning staff, as well as safe and secure parking. A new multi-story parking garage, from which partygoers will be guided to the arena, has been built directly across from the venue and accommodates over 1,000 vehicles. Easy-to-follow directions and a map will be provided by Joburg Pride closer to the event.

The Official Joburg Pride After-party will include a luxurious and exclusive Cintron VIP Lounge overlooking the stunning dance-floor and stage, with dedicated bar and toilet facilities, a women-only room and bar, as well as a men-only section dubbed "The Locker Rooms".

Sonique, who has previously visited the country and is brought to Joburg Pride by new energy drink Cintron Liquid Energy, will be supported by her two dancers and a line-up of top South African DJs.

"I am so excited to be returning to South Africa where the people are so warm and I had such a great time last time I visited," said Sonique from London. "It's an honour to be headlining Johannesburg gay Pride and I'm gonna do my best to give the gay people of Joburg the best time ever," she added.

Tickets for the after-party have been priced competitively. "While all profits from the after-party go towards Joburg Pride, ours is not a commercial undertaking which allows us to ensure that the event is as inclusive as possible," adds Harford.
