Title: Lilies
Director: John Greyson
Specs: Canada 1996 video 92min
In 1952 Bishop Bilodeaux is called to the prison to hear the confession of Simon Douchet, a man jailed for life on the Bishop's testimony. But it's really the Bishop's confession Simon has arranged to hear. Caged in the confessional, Bilodeaux is forced to watch a re-enactment of their boyhood love triangle. He had tried to suppress his desires but was enflamed when Simon fell in love with the beautiful Vallier.
A tale of love, jealousy and revenge, Greyson's Lilies is an intelligent and inventive adaptation, theatrical and flamboyant, with daring set changes and where all the female roles are played by men. Lilies won the 1998 OIA Audience Award.
